After procrastinating about three years I decided it was time to get Dad's 1948 Brockway started again. Poured in a couple gallons of gas and put the battery in the ole girl.
Five minutes later she was purring like the old days. These machines are amazing. They can be left sitting and then just fire up like they were run the day before. Greased what I could and tomorrow I'll start putting in what gear lube I can find ports for. She's an old one so whatever I put in will eventually leak out again ..... but at least it gives the gearing a lubrication bath. Dad had purchased the tractor in the mid-sixties and worked her hard for a couple years. Then both the tractor and Dad retired. He only used her with a backblade to push some occasional snow around. I just bought five acres of field that are contiguous with my two .... so I plan on using the ole girl for cruising around the fields.... just cause I can. |

When I get her back out tomorrow I'll take a couple snaps. Everytime I get near the tractor I remember the day I decided I'd like to drive her. Dad was gone working one of his two full time jobs. I was around eleven or so and didn't have all those gears figured out quite right. We shot out of the barn in about fourth gear and lost it into a fourteen inch elm tree.
The beautiful cast iron grill shattered into dozens of pieces and could not be put back together. I've been on a guilt trip ever since....... and it's been about fifty years. |

Here's a picture I have saved in my files of what a restored Brockway looks like.

Yes indeed... a couple years ago I posted on several of the antique tractor sites. No one was optimistic on my chances of ever finding one. The tractors are rare.

Brockway ceased production in 1959, but there’s a Leader Tractor Club that attracts Leader and Brockway buffs.

ps. I never heard of a Brockway tractor either only knew like Ingersoll 444 of the name in connection to the truck mfg.

Took her out for a ride around the fields today and all was well. Then I got the bright idea of putting the backblade on her & making her do a little work.
Almost like she had a tantrum and died on me. Five minutes cleaning out the fuel bowl and she finished the job. |

SARG,
Nice tractor. I have a few of my dads old tractors and it always brings back memories for me as well when i fire them up and use them. |
